Taishan Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 Shut Down

The Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong Province, which was hit by a possible radiation leak due to damaged fuel rods in June, announced in a statement on its official website on Friday, July 30, that it will shut down Unit 1, the unit where the problem occurred, to perform maintenance to find out the cause of the damaged fuel rods and replace them.

According to the statement released by CGNPC, the investor in China's Taishan nuclear power plant, a small amount of fuel rod damage occurred during the operation of the plant's Unit 1, but it was within the technical specifications and the plant was able to continue stable operation. However, considering that Unit 1 is a world-class "European-style advanced pressurized water reactor (EPR)" and has just started operation, the decision to shut down the plant for maintenance was made after thorough communication between Chinese and French engineers.

中国の泰山原発の出資者であるCGNPCが発表した声明によると、同原発の1号機の運転中に少量の燃料棒の損傷が発生したが、技術仕様の範囲内であり、安定した運転を続けることができたという。 しかし、1号機が世界的な「欧州型先進加圧水型原子炉（EPR）」であり、運転を開始したばかりであることを考慮し、中国とフランスの技術者が十分にコミュニケーションを取った上で、メンテナンスのためにプラントを停止することを決定しました。
